Welcome to Living Fuel TV. This is KC Craichy.

We’ve all heard that too much protein or high protein diets can have health consequences, including kidney disease. Well, let’s take a closer look at that.

You’ve heard us report on this many times. I devoted Chapter 11 to the whole subject in my latest book, The Super Health Diet: The Last Diet You’ll Ever Need. I presented the research, but lately we’ve been getting some push back from the low protein folks.

I have to tell you, I have numerous friends who are vegetarians and even vegans. Many of them have gone with the low protein, eat a bunch of vegetables, drink some carrot juice process, but they just flat were not healthy. Many of these I’ve been able to convince, at least on a trial basis, try increasing your protein level to at least 75% of your weight, your ideal weight, in grams of protein per day. When they try this, obviously from good plant source protein like protein powders, and once they try this they find they have higher energy levels, they sleep better, they feel better, their muscle mass comes around. This is something that I’ve seen in action now, so many times. Vegetarians who appropriate a right amount of proteins are extremely healthy, and those who do not are not. It seems that clear. The research that I have presented time and time again also seems to say the same thing.

One of the top kidney disease clinics in the world now say that low protein diets in the cases of kidney disease, are no longer appropriate. We know that people even heal from surgery better when they have higher protein intakes. Folks – protein is the carrier for essential amino acids, which basically make up most of what you are. There are so many things that essential amino acids are required for and you’re just not going to get it by having a salad with beans on it. So it is really difficult to be healthy and not incorporate high-quality plant protein powders and even plant based essential amino acids. I hope this was helpful to you.

God bless you and have a great day.
