Vitamin B12 is a water soluable vitamin your body needs to manufacture fresh blood cells and to maintain a healthy nervous system.  A B12 deficiency can lead to debilitating anemia, a host of neurological issues and overall lethargy and lack of energy.

Not all B12 is alike. B12 is actually a generic term for a class of compounds called cobalamins.  One compound, cyanocobalamin, is the most common form of B12 found in supplements, energy drinks and B12 injections.  However, a vast amount of nutritional literature suggests thatmethylcobalamin, the natural form of B12, is more readily absorbed by the body.  In fact, the body must actually convert cyanocobalamin to active co-factors of B12 such as methylcobalamin.

So, why don’t all supplement companies use methylcobalamin, since it’s the best form of B12?  Simply put, it’s dramatically more expensive.

Key in on the B12. As you’re evaluating the ingredients of supplements, key in on Vitamin B12 and note the form listed on the label.  If you seecyanocobalamin (easy to remember as it’s derived from the elementcyanide), you can usually assume that the other ingredients in the product are inferior as well.  Living Fuel uses only methylcobalamin in our functional superfood meal replacement blends.  This holds true to our unwavering philosophy of only using the best form of the purest, highest-quality ingredients to maximize the positive impact on you and your family’s wellness.
