Do you avoid exercise thinking that you need to spend hours in the gym or on the treadmill to gain significant fitness results?  This is not the case!  As with many things in life, exercise is more about the quality, not the quantity of your efforts.  It’s often what we do the 23 hours away from our workouts that can most determine our results.

Meet elite performance coach and trainer Andy O’Brien from The Edge School in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  Andy’s resume includes Strength and Conditioning Coach for the National Hockey League’s Florida Panthers and work with NHL and Olympic star Sidney Crosby, Olympic gold-medalist Dara Torres and other elite athletes.  Today, we discuss how a lean body, a low resting heart rate, and ample energy thoughout the day are results of your body adapting metabolically and hormonally to the physical stress you place on it during your workouts, along with what you do with the other 23 hours.

What does this mean to you?  You can maximize these adaptations with less time exercising by applying what you’ll learn from today’s video.  Click on the graphic below to watch.

LivingFuel HealthAlert: Is Sugar Essential?

Dear Living Fuel Family,

The average American consumes 150 pounds of sugar annually! While we may not be eating such a huge quantity of sugar each year, others are making up the difference!

Sugar was a special treat 100 years ago, a dietary micronutrient, but today sugar has become a staple in the American diet, a macronutrient. Sugar is literally everywhere – in soft drinks, cookies, cakes, crackers and most processed foods, even in breads and often disguised in many “health” foods. So exactly what role should sugar play in your family’s diet? Is sugar an effective workout fuel? Is sugar really addictive? What about carbo loading before a big event?

We answer these questions and more with elite strength and conditioning coach Andy O’Brien today on LivingFuelTV.

Dear Living Fuel Family,

Functional fitness is for everyone!

This week, has anyone asked you to run wind sprints? Have your children handed you two dumbbells to curl 10 times? It’s much more likely that you’ve carried bags of groceries from the car, bent down to pick up a stack of documents or reached for a tool on a high shelf in the garage. Welcome to functional fitness!

Listen in today as elite fitness coach Andy O’Brien teaches how you can build your best body – a body that moves efficiently and free of aches, pains and strains. You accomplish this by training your body with movements that you do everyday. With functional training, the body strengthens and adapts, growing more efficient to undertake the activities of the day.
