You’ve noticed that the past few times that you’ve eaten an apple, oddly enough your cat wants to go outside.  Hmmm…. so, your apple eating causes your cat’s sudden urge for fresh air.  Sound silly?  Indeed it does!  However, it is these types of sweeping correlation equals causation conclusions that pervade much of the recent media reports on studies looking at certain foods and nutrients and their effect on the body.  Why?  Well, the answer is multi-faceted, but such dramatic reporting does indeed attention!  But is it the truth?  That’s the real question!

Today, we take a close look at a recent study published online in the journal Nature Medicine linking the L-Carnitine in red meat to heart disease.  So then, does correlation equal causation here?  Let’s take a close look on today’s episode of LivingFuelTV.  You also learn great tips on which meats to enjoy and which to avoid.  Click on the graphic below to watch.

The media and health circles are abuzz with a recently published study that reportedly links intake of fish oil and a higher risk of prostate cancer.  Before we ignore years of clinical research and a mountain of studies supporting the remarkable health benefits (including anti-cancer properties) of Omega-3 and fish oil, let’s look more closely.  As a leading health researcher and author of three books on diet, nutrition, and performance, I’ve learned that healthy skepticism is important when analyzing medical studies and evaluating the subsequent reporting in the news.

Join me today on LivingFuelTV as we take a close look and shine the light of truth.

Say you work in an office with 30 others, and a co-worker comes down with a nasty cold virus.  A few days later, 4 others have identical symptoms.  However, you and the 25 others are unaffected.  All were exposed to the virus, but only a few succumed to it.  Why?  How does this relate to a much more insidious disease like cancer?

The cure for cancer is to not get it in the first place, similar to the group of employees in our example that avoided the cold virus.  While this concept may sound trite and overly simplistic, there is much truth in it.  Carcinogen is defined as any substance that can cause or aggravate cancer, and there are many carcinogens we know to avoid, such as tobacco smoke, asbestos, and nuclear fallout.  These are obvious to avoid.  Are there others?

We answer those questions today and more in a special LivingFuelTV HealthAlert, part of the insightful series Cancer Step Outside the Box with Ty Bollinger.  Today’s episode is a must-see for those battling cancer, those supporting a loved one in their fight against cancer, or anyone who wants to avoid a cancer diagnosis.  Learn what you can do to help your body evade and fight cancer cells.  We’ll also discuss the importance of nutrition, environment, and movement in living a cancer-free life.

150 pounds!  Would you believe that is this the amount of sugar the average American consumes in a single year?

Sugar was a special and rare treat just a few decades ago, a dietary micronutrient, but today has become a staple, a macronutrient, in the American diet.  Sugar is literally everywhere—in soft drinks, cookies, cakes, crackers, and most processed foods.  Sugar even lurks in the ingredient list of breads and often disguised in many “health” foods.  So, exactly what role should sugar play in your family’s diet?  Is sugar an effective workout fuel?  Is sugar really addictive?

We answer these questions and more with elite strength and conditioning coach Andy O’Brien today on LivingFuelTV.
