What to AVOID:

• Every species of commercial fish has been shown to contain unsafe levels of mercury and other contaminants.
• Farm-raised fish are contaminated for different reasons (they are fed toxins).
• Super concentrated fish oils are altered from its natural triglycerides form and reconstructed into an unnatural etherified form (ethyl ester). Fish oil omega-3s in the triglyceride form are better for boosting the omega-3 index than the ethyl ester form, says a new study from Germany, a result which echoes recent Danish findings. Choose fish oil with a maximum of 180 milligrams of EPA and 120 milligrams of DHA per capsule.
• Liquid fish oils due to risk of oxidation. Fish oil should be oxygen protected in a gelatin capsule (buffalo gelatin is best).
• Choose fish oil instead of shellfish oils. Personally, I avoid shellfish and shellfish oils, such as krill oil and green-lipped mussel oils, because of the wisdom behind biblical dietary law and shellfish are the filters of the sea. These oils do contain some omega-3 EPA and DHA, but not nearly as much as fish oils and are far more expensive. Manufacturers claim shellfish oils are better utilized in the body, so one does not have to take as much, and that they also contain some natural antioxidants to help prevent lipid peroxidation. Most researchers do not believe that any enhancement in absorption is enough to offset the dramatically lower amounts of EPA and DHA. The presence of antioxidants is a good thing, but the concentrations are small. However, if you are comfortable with taking shellfish oils or if it happens to be the only EPA/DHA that works for you, by all means take it!

Note: SuperEssentials Omega 3EDA+ is the only antioxidant essential fatty acids supplement that I am aware of that addresses all of these issues.

You can build a basic SuperSmoothie by starting with your favorite smoothie recipe and using mostly water (with or without ice) in a blender. Cut the amount of high sugar fruits and juices by 80 percent. Now, add 25 to 50 grams of a high quality protein powder along with five to 10 grams of a plant-based soluble fiber powder. The result will be a lower calorie, low glycemic, highly nutritious meal that will stabilize your blood sugar levels and help control your appetite. There are plenty of other high impact healthy ingredients that are important to add later—but this is a super healthy start.

The most effective techniques for fighting stress are the Seven Golden Keys, including regular and effective exercise and optimal nutrition. Exercise causes the brain to release natural endorphins, neurotransmitters in the brain that have pain-relieving properties akin to morphine. Exercise also is a detoxifier, useful in removing the byproducts of the stress response. Remember…regular exercise is more important than intense exercise. Working ourselves into a state of exhaustion while exercising can actually intensify feelings of anxiety, while regular, moderate exercise lowers anxiety and relaxes the body (Golden Key #3).

Regular exercise is critically important to one’s health. Studies show that exercise reduces the risk of heart attacks and strokes, improves lung and immune system function, increases mental vitality, lowers blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. Exercise can dramatically affect “secondary aging”—the incidence and severity of diseases associated with aging, such as diabetes, osteoporosis, and muscle and bone strength loss. Lifelong exercise has been shown to reduce mortality and increase life expectancy. People who exercise feel better, perform better in both work and leisure activities, and enjoy life more than people who do not exercise regularly.

Breakfast is the meal where most people make the biggest nutritional mistakes, ranging from not eating anything to eating sugars, grains, pasteurized dairy products, pork products, or fried foods. Don’t make poor breakfast choices. The goal is to get protein, healthy fats, fiber, and low glycemic carbs at every meal. My breakfast is always Living Fuel Rx Superfood. However, organic eggs with steamed sautéed vegetables are also an excellent choice. It is nutritionally proper to eat lunch and dinner foods for breakfast (i.e., leftover chicken or steak and salad from dinner).

Of all the needs of the body for health, water is by far the most important. Our body is comprised of 75 percent water, and water is involved in virtually all internal bodily reactions. It adjusts the body’s temperature and rids the body of toxins. Drink several glasses (8-12) of purified water every day for your health!
