Good nutrition is always important, but immediately following a workout, nutrition takes on great significance. After exercise, your body is often depleted of carbohydrates (used for energy during the workout) and starved for protein (that promotes the rebuilding of lean muscle). Your fitness gains are actually made during your recovery as your body rebuilds, repairs, and grows more fit and strong for your next workout. Consider your workout complete only after you’ve adequately recovered!

Here’s Living Fuel’s nutrient-rich answer to the nutrient-void neon “sports” recovery drinks so prevalent today. The LivingProtein Quick Recovery SuperSmoothie stars LivingProtein, the revolutionary organic brown rice/yellow pea plant protein and fiber blend, along with your favorite organic fruit juice. This delicious and simple SuperSmoothie re-FUELs you with approximately 260 calories, 7 grams of fiber, vital trace minerals, electrolytles, and 21 grams of clean plant protein!

Here are some “fast tips” for proper fasting:

• Replace breakfast or another meal daily with a Functional SuperSmoothie until you’re confident that your SuperSmoothie meal will provide five to six hours of sustained energy levels without hunger. Then you’re ready to replace another meal. Some people prefer to FUEL Fast just one of their three meals; some replace two of their three meals a day; others replace all three of their meals with a SuperSmoothie. Eat Smart Meals for each meal you do not have a SuperSmoothie. (See Smart Meals and SuperSmoothie and MicroSmoothie Recipes.)
• To extend energy and the time between meals, add fresh vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds, a splash of juice, or organic coconut milk/oil to your SuperSmoothie.
• Drink plenty of water, lightly caffeinated or caffeine-free herbal teas and SuperCoffee. Minimize caffeine between meals or within three hours of bedtime.
• Advanced weight optimization techniques are the Stealth Technique and Micro Fast. The Stealth Technique can be used 20 minutes before any meal, including a SuperSmoothie meal and at bedtime. The Micro Fast is an ultra low calorie Four Corners Fast, and it can be used to replace any meal, including a SuperSmoothie meal.

You can build a basic SuperSmoothie by starting with your favorite smoothie recipe and using mostly water (with or without ice) in a blender. Cut the amount of high sugar fruits and juices by 80 percent. Now, add 25 to 50 grams of a high quality protein powder along with five to 10 grams of a plant-based soluble fiber powder. The result will be a lower calorie, low glycemic, highly nutritious meal that will stabilize your blood sugar levels and help control your appetite. There are plenty of other high impact healthy ingredients that are important to add later—but this is a super healthy start.

We love banana split sundaes, but not the sugar, calories, fat, and lack of nutrition that comes with them.  Here’s Living Fuel’s spin on this classic that you can fix your kids (or yourself) for breakfast!  TheLivingProtein Banana Split SuperSmoothie fuels you with 465 calories, 12 grams of fiber, and 30 grams of plant protein.  This delicious SuperSmoothie is dairy-free, soy-free, and hassle-free!  Blend one up today and let us know what you think at the Living Fuel Facebook Page.

LivingProtein Banana Split SuperSmoothie

2 scoops (1 serving) LivingProtein
1 teaspoon organic unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons organic almond butter
½ medium frozen banana (organic is best)
1 cup unsweetened organic vanilla or chocolate almond milk
¼ teaspoon organic cinammon
dash nutmeg (optional)
Mix in blender until smooth and enjoy!

Save the Bananas!

Rescue your overripe bananas instead of tossing them.  Remove the peel and freeze them in a freezer-safe container.  Use them in your favorite SuperSmoothie recipes and they’ll keep up to 3 months in your freezer.  The cold locks in the nutrition and taste, provides a creamy consistency and chills your SuperSmoothie in the process.
