The debate as to whether it is better to eat three traditional meals or six small meals a day may seem like an age-old question to nutritionists, but many point back to research that began 45 years ago. Hejde and Fabry and their colleagues studied 379 men (ages 60 to 64) to see whether or not there was a difference in body fat between eating three meals per day and eating five meals per day. They observed that men who ate three meals per day had larger skin folds than the men who ate five or more meals per day.

Despite other potential benefits, many of today’s diets have us consuming far too many carbohydrates. Indeed, the body’s storage capacity for carbohydrates is quite limited. Excess carbohydrates are converted, via insulin, into glycogen, which is stored in the liver and muscles and easily converted to glucose as a source of energy. It is also converted to cholesterol (LDL) and into saturated fat (triglycerides), which is stored in the adipose (or “fatty”) tissue. Any meal or snack that is high in carbohydrates can cause blood glucose levels to rise too rapidly.
Chronically elevated insulin levels from excess carbohydrates promote fat and block the body’s ability to lose that fat. This vicious cycle leads to blood sugar and endocrine issues, including diabetes and metabolic syndrome, or Syndrome X, which leads to virtually every known disease over the long term. The good news is that many of the “degenerative diseases” and “incurable diseases,” such as type 2 diabetes, Syndrome X, and other endocrine/blood sugar disorders are often completely reversible through the principles taught in this book.

Body systems and organs that were once capable of cleaning out unwanted substances are now completely overloaded to the point where toxic material remains inside our tissues, causing a cascade of issues that includes weight gain. Our bodies try to protect us from these hazardous toxins by storing them in various places, particularly in fat cells and in the colon, often coating them with mucus and fat in an attempt to correct the imbalance or prevent an immune response. This excess mucus can cause significant weight gain that will not come off until the hazardous substances are detoxified from the body through detoxification diets or herbal cleansing programs.
The human body has several systems for detoxifying the wide array of pesticides and other foreign compounds that are found in our environment as well as eliminating the toxic end products of naturally occurring metabolic processes produced within the body. Provided the systems are functioning well, the detoxification process will occur quickly and without undue damage to the body. However, as with many bodily processes, the efficiency of these systems may be diminished with declines in general health as we age. Before we look at the Super Health 7 exercise system, here’s why strength building is so crucial. First of all, without resistance exercises, studies tell us that between the ages of 20 and 30 we begin to lose muscle, and this continues with aging. Loss of muscle slows our body metabolism, leading to fewer calories burned naturally by the body.
Keep in mind that one pound of muscle is thought to burn about 35 calories a day! So, typically, as we age, we lose muscle and gain fat simultaneously, often without noticing it. We may eat the same number of calories and just keep adding the pounds, because of the change in our body composition and progressive loss of digestive efficiency.

When you reach your weight loss goal, continue having a SuperSmoothie or Micro SuperSmoothie for one meal per day, preferably breakfast, and continue to eat Smart Meals for the rest of your meals. Continue to make sure your protein and other nutrient intake is at optimal levels.
Continue to regularly monitor your weight and body fat levels, and if you find you have gained more than a couple of pounds or increased body fat levels, go back to being more strict until you return to optimal weight.
There are numerous other strategies in this book that can be incorporated into your program. Try a few things at a time and find out what works for you. How do you know if it is working for you? If you feel good, have high energy levels, show improvements, such as in your focus, sleep, recovery, hair, skin, nails, digestion, and elimination, you are on the path to optimal weight and Super Health.
