So what’s all the fuss about fasting? We hear a lot about it these days: juice fasting and vegetable fasting and lemon fasting, and all kinds of fasting, intermittent fasting, so there’s a lot of confusion around this and a lot of people assume that every kind of fast is healthy for you.
Well, there are different purposes for different fasts. Let’s take for instance, the juice fast. We’re hearing so much about this, people are thinking that they can go as long as 21 days on just juice, and that that’s a really healthy thing to do. Well, unfortunately, there are a lot of shortcomings. Juice is a micro-nutrient; that means it is full of micro-nutrients. Let’s be clear is that it has a lot of minerals and vitamins and things along those lines, but it’s missing so many things, particularly macro-nutrients like protein and fiber and healthy fats, and so on. So when people are getting juice most of the time, they’re leaning towards the really good tasting juices: the fruit juices, the carrots, the root vegetables, the grape juice and orange juice and so on, instead of the deep dark greens. So it’s best to lean more toward the deep dark greens, and minimize these main roots, sweet vegetables just to give it a nice taste, and a nice balanced profile, but still you’re missing so much protein.
So, over a period of time the longer the fast goes the more body mass that people lose. Oftentimes they actually lose weight, but they don’t feel good, and they don’t really look good. Well, the problem is called sarcopenia which is muscle loss usually in the elderly. But you can create this situation by starving yourself of the necessary nutrients required to thrive, and there are 50 to 51 essential nutrients required for you to thrive, and in juice you’re only getting a fraction of that, and so you must do other things.
So, in order to have a healthy juice fast you must put protein in it, or superfood powders, or some combination of superfood powders, and also take your multivitamin, and your omega-3s, and so on, unless you’re using say, Living Fuel powders, then that’s all you need in there. But if you put these in there, or you take these extra supplements, then you can have a healthy situation that can preserve your muscle.
So hopefully this was helpful to you. God bless you, and have a great day.
