Not all protein is alike, and just because you get a lot of protein does not mean you are necessarily getting an ideal amount of essential amino acids (EAAs). Foods that contain sufficient amounts of all of the EAAs are called complete proteins. These foods include beef, chicken, fish, eggs, milk, cheese, and just about any other food derived from animal sources. Animal protein has long been thought to be the standard; however, optimized plant proteins now have taken center stage. Recent studies have shown that plant protein that has been optimized (i.e., combination of brown rice protein powder with yellow pea protein powder with specific amino acids added to strengthen the amino acids profile) can replicate the amino acids profile of animal protein without the acidity and potential allergic reactions commonly associated with some of the most popular animal protein powders.
