Radiation dangers remain breaking news with the ongoing crisis at the Fukushima nuclear power plants in Japan. Without downplaying the very real radiation hazards this threat may pose to those of us outside of Japan, this event highlights how critically important it is for us to pay close attention to radiation dangers already all around us–from ambient radiation in the air, to medical radiation such as x-rays, mammograms and CT scans, to airport scanning machines. There is little we can do about radiation fall-out in the atmosphere and in the food and water supply except to stay informed, avoid what you can and rely on prayer. What we can do is maximize our body’s ability to deal with radiation by making wise diet and lifestyle decisions and minimize excess radiation from controllable sources.
